Hanging from suspended ceiling grids

With the right hardware, suspended ceiling grids offer a quick and convenient way to hang signs, banners, POS, decorations, light fittings and more.

  • Hanging wires are easily attached to the metal gids which support false ceiling tiles.
  • Special suspended ceiling hangers, or suspension clips, lock onto 25mm (1 inch) wide ceiling grids, with drop-wires attached.
  • Versatile ceiling suspension hooks enable the height of hanging signs or suspended lights etc. to be adjusted and levelled up rapidly on site.

What can you hang from a suspended ceiling?

Suspended ceilings, also known as false ceilings or grid ceilings, are frequently used to close off a roof space to hide pipes, ductwork and electrical services, and yet allow for easy maintenance access to the ceiling void by lifting one or more ceiling tiles. The tiles are decorative and absorb sound, but you should not attempt to fix directly to ceiling tiles as they cannot bear any significant weight.

False ceiling tiles are generally supported on a metal ceiling grid. Ceiling grids can also create a convenient suspension point to hang signage, light fittings, plants, and other decorative items using suspended ceiling hangers. Note that heavy loads such as machinery should be suspended from the structure above the ceiling void (e.g. structural concrete ceiling), with wire rope passing through small holes in the false ceiling.

Easy ways to hang signs and POS from grid ceilings

We offer grid ceiling hardware which is fully adjustable for easy height alignment.

  • False ceilings (suspended ceilings/drop ceilings) comprise a ceiling grid onto which suspension fittings can be attached. The grids are made up of inverted T-bars which are normally 25mm (1") wide.
  • Grid ceiling hangers either twist onto the ceiling bars or they are a push fit. Suspended ceiling hooks are fitted to these with ease.
  • Twist action ceiling grid anchors support heavier loads and are more secure than push-on suspended ceiling clips (such as T-bar clips).
  • Most ceiling grids are made from pressed steel covered with a decorative plastic or paint finish. These grids are receptive to magnets, making magnetic attachment viable in some drop ceiling situations. More magnetic ceiling hooks here.
  • Because suspended ceilings are very common in shops and supermarkets, suspended ceiling fixings are widely used for hanging point-of-sale (POS) assets promoting seasonal offers or for hanging aisle signs. Low-cost plastic clips are an economical choice for lightweight suspended POS items. More lightweight POS hanging accessories here.
  • With heavier loads the strength of the suspended ceiling system should be checked, although normally this isn't an issue for suspending typical signs and banners.
